In April 2026 we ran a quick survey across the Reclub community, asking players five questions about how they choose meets, what size group they prefer, how they feel about skill gaps, what they look for in a host, and how they like to wind down after a session.
110 players responded. Here is what the data tells us.
Key Findings
- Convenience wins, but only just. Proximity is the top tie-breaker at 33%, narrowly ahead of host reputation (30%) and court quality (22%). Price is the smallest factor at 13%, players will pay more for a better-run meet that's close to home.
- The Greeter and the Matchmaker share the spotlight. 51% of players say making everyone feel welcome is the most important host quality, and 44% want fair, fun match-ups. Together these two roles account for 95% of responses, polish and energy alone barely rate.
- Medium is still the sweet spot. 44% of players prefer meets of 12 to 20 people, and 51% want a mix of skill levels rather than tight competition. Smaller intimate groups (under 8) are a strong second at 25%.
- The session doesn't end at the final point. 82% of players stay engaged after the game, whether by grabbing food and drinks together (30%), chatting in the app (27%) or checking their stats (25%). Only 18% just head home.
The Tie-Breaker
“When choosing between two similar meets, what tips the scale?”
Host reputation tops the list at 32%, but proximity and court quality are right behind at 29% each. Price is the least important factor at just 10%, reinforcing that social sport is an experience-driven activity where convenience and quality matter far more than cost.
The Sweet Spot
“What is the ideal meet size for a social session?”
Over half of players (52%) prefer medium-sized meets of 12 to 20 people, big enough for variety, small enough to still feel social. Small intimate groups came in second at 23%, while big sessions and 'any size' tied at 13%.
Competition vs Community
“Which experience do players value more?”
Players lean towards variety. 52% prefer a mix of skill levels where they can both mentor and learn, while 32% want tight competition at their own level. 16% value consistency and would rather play with regulars they already know, regardless of skill.
The Host Superpower
“What makes a great host?”
Making everyone feel welcome is the clear winner. 55% of players say a host's most important quality is being a Greeter, creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere. 35% value the Matchmaker, someone who organises fair and fun games. Together these two roles account for 90% of responses.
After The Final Point
“How do players prefer to recap a great session?”
29% head straight home, but the majority stay engaged after the session. 26% chat and share photos in the app, another 26% check their updated stats and ratings, and 19% grab food or drinks together. Post-meet engagement is a real opportunity for hosts and platforms.
